'Nocmig' recording on the night of the 5th March produced Coot (49), Moorhen (50) and Little Grebe (51). I very much doubt I will ever see the first two species on the patch unless I spend some time listening during the hours of darkness as they pass through the area. Nonetheless, it's nice to know they are flying over at night. I spent a few hours Sunday morning which included an hour or so seawatching and then a wander along the seafront and a look in Bishopstone Glen. Birds noted included 3 Grey Partridge (52) at dawn along with a singing Cetti's Warbler (53) and Pheasant (54). A look at the sea and area produced 3 Jackdaw (55), 2 Pochard (56) flying east, 2 Egyptian Geese flying east, 2 Canada Geese (57) flying east, a new patch tick, 1 Fulmar (58), c80 Brent Geese, 1 Shelduck, 4 Turnstone, 1 Kittiwake (59) east, 4 Great Black backed Gull, 8 Great crested Grebe, 7 Red throated Diver, c30 Cormorant, 1 Green Woodpecker (60), 2 Peregrine (61) sat on the pier, 5 Chiffchaff (62) including 3 singing males, 2 Firecrest, 1 Song Thrush (63), 1 Stonechat, 3 Meadow Pipit, 19 Chaffinch, 3 Linnet (64), 1 Goldfinch (65) and 5 Dunnock (66). Recording on the night of the 8th produced a calling Water Rail (67) whilst the night of the 9th produced a Coot and a Mediterranean Gull (68).
