With rain forecast from first light which soon appeared, I decided to have a seawatch again out of the rain. The wind was coming from the SW which is not at all ideal but it's always worth a try. Birds noted from 8am included 3 Brent Geese, 2 Oystercatcher, 2 Redshank, 4 Turnstone, 1 Dunlin (36), 33 Black headed Gull, 2 Common Gull, c70 Herring Gull, 2 Great Black backed Gull, 3 Great crested Grebe, 4 Red throated Diver, 147 Cormorant, 3 Carrion Crow, 16 Starling (37), 2 Pied Wagtail, 2 Meadow Pipit and 1 Rock Pipit. The highlight of the session was 1 Egyptian Goose (38) flying west at 09:30 which then landed on a metal structure in the sea. It stayed for c10 minutes before carrying on west only to then land on the edge of Herne Bay pier for c20 minutes before I assume it carried on west. Still plenty of birds to be found and seen in the coming weeks hopefully. Weather permitting, I'm hoping to get the recorder out in the week.
