Nocmig recording Friday night produced 1 Golden Plover and a very close Tawny Owl calling which is a good bird for the area. I spent a few hours Saturday morning at Bishopstone on the cliffs doing a mixture of looking out to sea and watching birds passing overhead. Birds noted included 15 Brent Geese, 3 Shelduck, 8 Grey Partridge, 102 Woodpigeon, 1 Coot, 3 Oystercatcher, 2 Curlew, 128 Black headed Gull, 6 Mediterranean Gull, 1 Common Gull, 2 Great Black backed Gull, 2 Lesser Black backed Gull, 4 Sandwich Tern, 1 Great crested Grebe, 1 Red throated Diver, 1 Gannet, 5 Little Egret, 1 Grey Heron, 2 Sparrowhawk, 1 Jay, 30 Skylark, 3 Swallow, 4 Chiffchaff, 3 Goldcrest, 2 Firecrest, 3 Redwing, 3 Stonechat, 2 Grey Wagtail, 165 Chaffinch west, 473 Goldfinch west and 2 Siskin.
I spent Sunday morning seawatching as there was a light NE wind and noted 434 Brent Geese, 3 Shelduck, 74 Wigeon, 3 Pintail, 19 Teal, 12 Common Scoter, 1 Oystercatcher, 1 Ringed Plover, 1 Pomarine Skua, 1 Great Skua, 2 Mediterranean Gull, 5 Sandwich Tern, 1 Great crested Grebe, 1 Red throated Diver, 29 Gannet and 16 Cormorant. I was watching a quite distant flock of Brent Geese flying west when I noticed a slightly smaller bird in with them which occasionally glided. As I picked up the bird again in the flock I was amazed to see it was a Glossy Ibis (149) a patch tick. Although distant, I could make out the jizz of the bird and saw it quite well through the scope. Unfortunately, the flock was getting more distant and flying further out to see and was eventually lost to view. also seen were 1 Little Egret, 1 Long eared Owl at dawn, 1 Peregrine, 22 Skylark, 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Grey Wagtail, 16 Chaffinch and 4 Linnet.
