I had a couple of visits to the Downs today, the first, a seawatch from first light for an hour or so and then a walk around the whole area later in the morning. Birds noted early morning included 1 Egyptian Goose east, then back west, 7 Shelduck, 2 Mallard, 3 Common Scoter, 16 Oystercatcher, 3 Whimbrel, 2 Turnstone, 1 Kittiwake west, 5 Black Headed Gull, 16 Mediterranean Gull west, c300 Herring Gull offshore, 1 Great Black backed Gull, 1 Lesser Black backed Gull, 5 Great crested Grebe, 6 Cormorant, 1 Peregrine, 1 Sand Martin, 2 Swallow, 1 Chiffchaff, 1 Blackcap, 1 Common Whitethroat and 5 Linnet. Birding later in the morning again produced 1 Whimbrel, 44 Mediterranean Gull east, 2 Little Egret, 1 Sparrowhawk, 2 Common Buzzard, 1 Green Woodpecker, 1 Kestrel, 3 Rook, 1 Skylark, c80 Sand Martin, 3 Chiffchaff, 1 Cetti's Warbler, 5 Blackcap, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 5 Common Whitethroat, 1 Firecrest, 1 Yellow Wagtail and 18 Linnet. Recording on the night of the 16th only produced 1 Oystercatcher calling during the night.
At Herne Bay Downs, 16 Med Gulls west a.m. and 44 Med Gulls east p.m. That's 60 Med Gulls total, I'm loving this, and bet you are too Marc.

The patch is really starting to grow on me. Can be hard work but the rewards will be there if I keep visiting when I can. Take care.
